Intro to Sock Knitting

Spaces left

Knitting socks can sound scary! Fine yarn, all those needles and turning heels - but they are not difficult when you know how. Megan's grandmother was still knitting socks at the age of 97. Indeed sock knitting can become very addictive and super satisfying!

In this class you will make a small top-down sock which will allow you to understand each of the steps involved. You will be introduced to three ways of knitting socks using 4 or 5 double ended needles, two circular needles or one circular needle (the Magic loop method).

Megan will talk you through sock yarns and patterns and introduce you to some of the different ways you can knit socks.

Pre-requisite knowledge: Ability to cast on, knit and purl and cast off.

Megan's Grandmother was still knitting socks at 97. She knitted socks for every member of the family and they remain Megan's favourite, most comfortable socks. She knitted plain socks for my grandfather all of his life and in her later years, was delighted to explore the exciting new range of self-patterning yarns. When she died, we inherited her leftover yarn and took up the needles, continuing her sock knitting tradition.

Indeed, sock knitting can become utterly addictive and very satisfying! Sock knitting is the perfect small project to keep in your handbag, to travel with and to experiment with beautiful yarns and patterns.Wearing a hand knitted sock is so much better than any shop bought one and they make a wonderful and greatly appreciated gift for anyone, from babies through teenagers to the elderly. In this class, you will be introduced to the art and science of sock making.
